As an artist I'm always in the pursuit of new ideas, fusing together different media within a painting has always been an avenue of exploration for me. In doing this challenge my focus on this body of work (30 paintings when complete) focuses on using basic elements such as fields of color, spacial division, line and many layers of different media to create compositions that relate to land and sea.
This painting primarily is broken down into color fields and lines, incorporating fabric, magazine pages and paint to create a unified composition. It should be interesting to see all the works and how they relate to one another.

This is third in a series of 3 works. They can be hung together or alone. If you view them on my web page you will see that the first and second painting look nice together or the second and third depending upon the look you want.
24" x 24" mixed media and encaustic on cradled wood panel
This is the first of a series of three. In case you don't know what encaustic is, it is an ancient medium made of wax, pigment and resin. It is heated to melt the wax, then applied quickly with a brush. It dries immediately and then is fused to the panel with a heat gun.
A bit of art history... this medium was first used by ancient Greeks to repair the hulls of their ships. They also used it to paint portraits of the dead. If properly cared for it is very durable and can last for centries. Just some useless information, you never know you could be the next "Jeopardy Champ!"
Day 4... This work may mimic the beach or sea do to it's transcending values and use of line and color, yet up close it's very easy to get lost in all the detail or better stated puts you in a meditative state of mind. (close up details below)

Day 2 of the 30 Day Painting Challenge, I'm just getting caught up with all the posting after a hectic holiday! Another abstract Mindscape reminiscent of time spent in Ireland recently. The colors of the land are still vivid in my mind.

Once again I'm doing the 30 Day painting challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta. This should prove to be interesting as these works are large mixed media paintings that require some time. The only rule to this challenge is to have fun but hopefully I will attempt to create 30 works over the next 30 days! I will be working on a collection of abstract land and seascapes or I'd like to think of it as "Mindscapes", a fresh new voice into the world of contemporary art. Please join me and follow my blog!
