Thirty Paintings in 30 a Days Painting Challenge - Day 30

                                                                " Game Night"
                                                                       6" x 6"

I played a game of pool last night and I "WON" my opponent was me! Haha... The things you do when you're alone too long, not that it's a bad thing.

It's Friday, January 30... The last day of the 30 In 30 Painting Challenge and I'm happy to say, I did it! What a month it has been and a journey I definitely enjoyed. I promise to keep painting and posting, just not as often. I have a large project I started last week and will be working away from home for many weeks, so I really need to focus on that. This past week was tough doing both but I did it. It's amazing how much you can accomplish when you have a goal. Thanks to everyone who followed the  challenge and for visiting my blog, your comments were truly encouraging!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 29

This is Provincetown Architecture at its finest!! Many of the homes are charming small cape cods and resemble this, not to mention they are just about built on top of one another and packed in like sardines. Most have wood sided exteriors if not cedar shakes and I love the corbels that frame out the overhang above the door which is also very popular. I took this photo a while back and find it enchanting how the sun lights the house!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 28

This is another road I traveled today in Littlestown, Pa. near Hanover on the way to Home Depot. I needed some supplies for the home I am working on in this area. I'm also staying in this house so my trip to the store was my first outing all week. I snapped a lot of pictures when I was going down the road, luckily I didn't crash into anything! I started this painting rather late today so when it was approaching midnight I gave up. This painting is not quite complete, at some point I will be returning to this work, so until then I'm going to leave it untitled!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 27

                                                    "Fields of Hanover"
                                                               6"x 6"

As a decorative artist there are times I work 3 to 4 hours away from home. When I do this I generally take up residence in the home I'm working in or a nearby hotel, which is what I'll be doing over the next few weeks. Hanover and the surrounding towns are very rural and beautiful as if a step back in time, while there is still lot of open fields and countryside much of the town has gotten built-up with many large store chains. Hopefully construction will come to a halt in this area. I painted this from a photo I took along the way.

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 26

                                                                     "Morning Light"
                                                                             6" x 6"
More greetings from Ireland, this was another cottage along our tour in Galway a few years back. I also painted this using thick brush work.

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 25

A warm welcome"

                                                        "A Warm Welcome"
                                                                  6"x 6"

I had fun while it lasted painting New York, but I've moved on to a new landscape... Ireland! I'm working from some photos I took in Ireland a few years ago. For some reason I'm drawn to these thatched roof houses and love the simplicity of the homes and landscape. I'll definitely be painting more of these!

Thirty Paintings in 30Days Paint Challenge - Day 24

                                                             "Going Nowhere"
                                                                       6" x 6"

My head is still in New York, I need to reel myself back in! It's rare to see an empty cab in New York, this "cabby" must be out to lunch!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 23

                                                                               6"x 6"

After being in New York last weekend for our annual girls weekend, I felt the need to paint New York! This photo wasn't from this past weekend because my pictures lacked, so I used an older pic.
So here it is , yes a FedEx truck! Think about it, how do you feel when your waiting for the ultimate package to arrive, you have great anticipation if not anxiety. Then on the other hand and I'm sure this has happened to you once or twice, there's that package that arrives and you say, "I didn't order anything" ...well isn't that the best surprise! Needless to say, "I love New York" and the girls are already planning next years itinerary!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 22

                                                    "P-Town Gallery"
                                                            6" x 6"

Again, I painted this from a photo I took in Provincetown, Ma. of the Julie Heller Gallery, one of the oldest galleries in P-Town. In case you didn't know P-Town is one of the oldest artist colony's in America and has been artistically vibrant for more than 100 years. Most of the galleries are on Commercial Street along with many other shops, restaurants and bars. It is a very narrow street that runs along the bay. If you're an art lover or just looking to have a lot of fun this is the place to be.

This is Commercial street, in the heart of P-Town on a summer day.

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 21

                                                       "Beach House"
                                                              6" x 6"

This is one of my favorite places, Provincetown, Massachusetts. This structure sits at Race Point beach not far from the Ranger station. Although I don't mind the winter, I do like the change of seasons but this makes me wish for summer after a cold snowy day!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 20

                                                         "Dirty Tini"
                                                            6" x 6"

"This is just what you need after a rough day!"
3 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz. olive brine

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with cracked ice, shake well. Strain into a "chilled" cocktail glass, garnish with an olive or two, and serve.

Yummmm,  now you have yourself a dirty martini! Here's a tip, "be careful, they sneak up on you, if you know what I mean!

So if you haven't noticed its day 20 of the challenge, 2/3 down and on the home stretch of completing, I hope your enjoying the work! Feel free to comment!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge -Day 19

                                                      Art Collector
                                                            6" x 6"
For the love of art, a salute to American Art Collector Magazine! If you love art you will love this magazine whether you are a collector or an art lover. This happened to be sitting on my paint table so rather than setting up a still life or looking through my pictures for something to paint I painted what was in front of me, not to mention one of my favorite magazines... Enjoy!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 18

                 Vincent's Chair
                         6" x 6"

"You can't be at the pole and the equator at the same time. You must choose you own line, as I hope to do, and it will probably be color."
Vincent Van Gogh - writer, artist, genius

Adding to my Vincent series, I painted this yellow chair, which mimics that of Vincent's painting.

Often touching and witty, his writing gave invaluable insight into the life of one of the  greatest  artists who ever lived.

His art reached an unsurpassable peak of intensity and originality, which can be described as unprecedented progress within ten years.

Vincent's brother Theo said, the only other artist to whom he could compare Vincent to was Beethoven, and if your surprised about that, both artists continue indefinitely to excite and engage the widest imaginable audience.

Here's the bonus: if your hooked on trivia crack maybe all this info isn't  so useless... Just a thought!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 17

                                                         6" x 6"

Cherry infused Vin, the thought of "Red"... I can just taste it! Getting to the point there's not much more I can say!

I've been working very hard on completing the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Paint Challenge but I must say it's getting very difficult, considering this has been a highly traveled month for me. Los Angeles, Western Pa, New York City and back to Home... Runnemede, NJ in between. And before months end another trip to Pa for what may last 4 to 6 weeks. I'll be sure to share some details of this upcoming project!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge -Day 16

                                                                  "True Confession"
                                                                           6"x 6"

Yet another one of my magnolias from my archived picture files. With so much to say about "white" and so much I've already said, I say...."Enough!" Just thought I would spare you of all that babble.

If your curious yet confused read my previous blog!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 15

                                                         "A Whiter Shade of Pale"
                                                                         6" x 6"

Ahhh, taking it back to "1967", remember the song... "A Whiter Shade of Pale."
                                       We skipped the light fandango
                                        turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
                                        I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd cries out for more....

A fact is, the band got the name of the song after overhearing someone at a party saying to a woman, "You've turned a whiter shade of pale", with its lyrics being both both allusive and complex, thus came the song!

Which makes me think "white" and how difficult painting white can be. The truth of then matter is, while many think "white" is a mere absence of color, it is truly affirmative. It is as vibrant as "red" and as definite as "black!"

I find there are so many countless shades of white it's endlessly insane!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 14

                       "Slice of Life"
                             6"x 6"

I just had to paint this little "Slice of Life", you can just taste it, beaming with light it was calling my name! Yet another one of my photos from the archives. This ones for you Leslie Saeta for hosting the 30 Day Painting Challenge and for helping artists!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 13

                                                "Wearing Red"
                                                        6"x 6"

Sweet, succulent, sassy... All wearing "Red", three fashionistas out on the town... Look out guys!

I never thought I would find cherries at the grocery store in January, I only thought they were sold in the summer when in season...silly me! You may find me painting more of these "Red" delights!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 12

wasn't sure what I should paint today, therefore I paid a visit to my picture files. I'm always taking tons of pictures never knowing if I can use for a painting or even details within a mural. Back in the spring I took some shots of a magnificent magnolia tree in bloom, and sure enough in the dead of winter the magnolias came back to life today! So here it is.......

                                                      6"x 6"

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge -Day 11

                                                       6"x 6"

Just what you want at the beginning of a new week after over indulging all weekend, a big fat chocolate donut!" Yes indeed, CALORIE FREE....imagine that!!!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 10

Ten days into the challenge and 10 paintings later... Yayyy.

I'm 1/3 on the way to completing the 30 day painting challenge. I've been burning the candle at night and oversleeping the next morning, yuk...not good! I can be quite competitive at times so I'm hoping not to disappoint, both myself and all who are rallying!

                                                  "Ying and Yang"
                                                          6" x 6"

Black and white, opposing yet not! Salt and pepper, a main staple in the kitchen and the two ingredients to a perfect life!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 9

                                           "To My Dear Friend"
                                                      6" x 6"

One of my favorite subjects to paint, "sunflowers!" This is another painting in my "Vincent Series."
The letter in this background is to Paul Gauguin, if you didn't know he was a famous artist of that time and a good friend of Vincent's. I decided to do some research on the letter and this is very ironic, when I used this letter for the background little did I know that it was a letter to Gauguin and that Gauguin had acquired  "sunflower" paintings from Vincent. Keep in mind the letters are in French. Somehow I think this painting was meant to be!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 8

                                                                     "French Poppy"
                                                                            6" x 6"

Ahh, my favorite color "Red" at least when it comes to paint!

This is part of a my "Vincent Series" a collection of works that depict the style and details (letters) of Vincent Van Gogh. The background of this piece contains one of the many letters which Vincent wrote to his brother Theo.  Watch for more to come of the Vincent Series.

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 7

                                                                        "Over the Dune"
                                                                                 6" x 6"

Heading down Route 6 toward P-town along the highway, there is a certain point when you come over a hill and it hits you smack in face, huge dunes that are amazingly high made of white sand.  Whatever your age it is absolutely enchanting and somewhat magical!

Having a bit of a cold snap let's think warmer weather!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 6

                                                                           6" x 6"

I painted this from a photo I took while staying out in the Provincetown dunes (Cape Cod National Seashore). As an artist I was privileged to get selected 3 times and stayed in 3 different dune shacks. The dune shacks were home to american artists from the 1920's - today. Miles away from civilization they are a haven for the creative mind. While the shacks have no electricity or running water it is amazing how satisfying the simple life can be. There is much to be said about the dune shacks as well as many well known artists who have stayed in them. To learn more search ... National geographic dune shacks youtube. It's a 6:42 minute video and gives a great understanding of these little humble abodes!

This was the first shack I stayed in - Margo-Gelb otherwise know as "Boris." From sunrise til sunset the color of the dunes is absolutely amazing!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge -Day 5

                                                                      "Last Light"
                                                                          6" x 6"

There's nothing like watching the sunset on the sea at the end of a beautiful day. I painted this from a  photo taken in the dunes of Provincetown, Massachusetts during one of my artist residencies. I would go to the ocean everyday, which was a short walk from my beach shack to see the last light of day, (given that I had to rely on candlelight to get through the night) needless to say it was always absolutely magnificent!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 4

                                                          "Twisted "
                                                             6" x 6"

A zesty little lemon all twisted up in a bunch, what good could come from this little guy? Well a word of advise, when life throws you lemons...drink lots of lemon water!

A New Year always brings resolutions, and like most of us the number one resolution is a diet!
So make it happen, "A New Year, A New You"!!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Painting Challenge - Day 3

Now back from the Rose Bowl and Float Parade and feeling overwelmed from all that transpired over the past week, I can't help but to think of the wonderful memories which were made. Just yesterday I wondered what I might paint for Day 3, however it came pretty easy. The Rose Parade Floats are absolutely awesome, covered with roses, flowers and organic materials. My nephew was honored on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float... "A Never Ending Story" and this years parade theme was "Inspiring Stories". For me and my family this has been an amazing beginning to a New Year!

Happy 2015!

Thirty paintings in 30 days - Day 2

This is Day 2 of the Thirty Paintings in 30 days Challenge! Another California orange, only fitting that I'm spending time on the west coast for the Rose Bowl! So after today no more oranges. I will be heading home on the east coast later today so it's anyone's guess what I'll paint tomorrow.
