Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 7

                                                              "Sea of Green" I
24" x 24" mixed media and encaustic on cradled wood panel

This is the first of a series of three.  In case you don't know what encaustic is, it is an ancient medium made of wax, pigment and resin. It is heated to melt the wax, then applied quickly with a brush. It dries immediately and then is fused to the panel with a heat gun.

A bit of art history... this medium was first used by ancient Greeks to repair the hulls of their ships. They also used it to paint portraits of the dead. If properly cared for it is very durable and can last for centries. Just some useless information, you never know you could be the next "Jeopardy Champ!"
